Rayman Origins – Sound, Vision and Design

With Rayman Legends being the sequel to Rayman Origins, I decided to look in to the design of the previous game to help me develop the design for my section.

With the sound design, there needs to be some sort of iconic sounds within the gameplay to encourage the player to carry on, a little like collecting rings in Sonic or coin’s in Mario, Rayman has floating lums. When the player collects a special ‘king’ lum you hear a little manic tune which then encourages the player to collect as many of these lums as possible. The musical platforms and switches in later levels adds to the impression, it complements the bizarre visuals. The Rayman series relies heavily on platform fundamentals, even though the platforms contain new enemies, ideas and surfaces, it is a similar basis seen in Mario, Sonic and Donkey Kong Country.
