On the 27th March 2013 I, Alex Waddell, borrowed a H4N Zoom recorder to collect a bunch of sounds that may be useful for my visual media. Whether it be to practise manipulation skills to create the correct sound for the visual or sounds that could be used straight away as sound effects. The following images show me recording in m parents garage.
The three photos above are of a pen being rolled over a car cover. I used this to create a rumble sound, with mainly use for Birdsong (the robotic character from Bio-Shock) in mind.
In this photo, I am using two metal oil containers that are both about half full to interpret the footsteps of birdsong. I recording three different paces and at three different volume levels. I did this so when it came to placing my audio with the visuals I would have more of choice to which tempo would best suit the image. I changed the microphone levels so I could use the same sound with little manipulation to give the impression of distance.
Here I am recording a metal garage door opening and closing. I aimed this sound for Birdsong again but hoping it may come to use in Rayman Legends.
I recorded a thicker plank of wood falling and bouncing off three thinner planks of wood. The intentions I had for this sound is to create the falling sound of the puppets in the beginning scene to Bio-Shock.
This is an image of my recording a metal pole falling on the a wooden cupboard. I recorded this sound the help boost the sound of Birdsong’s movement in Bio-Shock, as well as for some of the more chimey sounds in Rayman Legends.
I am recording a small spade grinding against the concrete floor for the sounds of stone steps moving in and out of the walls in Rayman Legends.
Here I am recording picking up and dropping keys with about 10 seconds between each one. This sound is for the collection sounds within both games when the characters collect and pick objects up.
I, also, gathered sounds of a screwdriver hitting a paint tin lid (more chimey sounds for Rayman legends), a condom and latex glove being popped (for the ghosts Rayman pops in the middle section of the media), walking in heels on a wooden floor (Bio-shock). Hitting the floor with a pillow (Raymans Footsteps), Punching a punchbag (Raymans punches through out the game). OXO cubes falling out a glass jar on to a porcelain plate (many smash or crashing sounds throughout either game). Door opening and closing,
